Welcome to Biology 1010 & 1015

This is the course website for Mrs. Brooks CE Biology 1010 and 1015 courses at NUAMES. This course fulfills the Life Sciences requirement for the General Education Program. It is designed to not only teach the information and skills required by the discipline, but also to develop vital workplace skills and to teach strategies and skills that can be used for lifelong learning.
When you have successfully completed this course, you will have a broad foundation of knowledge in the biological sciences. You will have substantial understanding of the building blocks of life – atoms, molecules, and macromolecules – as well as the structure and function of the smallest unit of life, the cell. You will have substantial knowledge of the chemical processes that make life possible, including enzymatic activity, photosynthesis, and cellular respiration. You will learn how traits are inherited and how life changes over time to give rise to new species. You will be able to use scientific reasoning to solve qualitative and quantitative problems in basic chemistry, cellular biology, genetics, and evolution. You will have a greater understanding of the scientific method and how it is used to address questions in biology. Finally, you will have a greater appreciation for the great diversity of life on our planet.
